I am concerned about the Government’s plans for Network Rail, and the Shaw Report into how to change its structure and financing, which is due to be completed early next year. I believe the report opens the door to the total privatisation of Britain’s railways.
Network Rail needs to improve but more fragmentation and more privatisation are the last things our rail system needs. We need a plan to improve the railways based around more integration and taking the franchises into public ownership, and the Government should rule out the privatisation of Network Rail.
Passengers deserve a fairer deal on our railways and we need a transport system that delivers better value for money and gives passengers a real voice in how services are run. I hope the Government now listen to the concerns that many passengers have raised about our railways.
